This Message will Self Instruct

(for Veronique!) So you buy the wood letters ... you can make any word or name or whatever. They were around $3 each. I painted the letters with acrylic paint. So you would want to buy acrylic paint ($1-$2). Then you buy scrap booking paper. I bought 5 or 6 different pieces, all that were in the color scheme I was going for. (they were $.69 each and I bought one with words to cut out) After you've painted the letters, you trace the shape of each letter on the paper you want for the base of that letter. Then you cut it out. Then I just kind of pieced other papers on in a random fashion. I traced the end of one letter so the bottom had a different paper than the other. Kind of collage-y. After that you need to have Modge Podge (large bottle $7) and you paint that on the top of the letter, put the first piece of traced and cut out paper down, and then Modge Podge over the top of that, then putting each layer on and Modge Podge over that. Let it dry. Once it's dry, you embellish. So in the scrap booking section of Michaels there are tons of different choices. I bought adhesive ribbon and adhesive "stickers" (many different prices) and just went to town. At every intersection of different papers, I wrapped the ribbon around the letter. Then I added the butterflies and the flowers and the puzzle pieces. It was really fun and didn't take too long. (let me know if you have any more questions)

This looks like a nice project to do. I am glad I am no longer doing things like that, but I can still appreciate the results!
