Princess Academy, Shannon Hale
(this is the author who wrote Austenland and Book of a Thousand Days, both of which I loved)
Miri is a girl who lives in a tiny village on the top of a mountain. The people in the village work in a stone quarry and that's what they do. Everyone in the village does the same thing. So when they are told that their village has been "foreseen" to be the place the prince has to pick his bride from, they are all shocked. Miri, along with 19 other girls from the village are ordered to attend the Princess Academy, and at the end of it, meet the prince ... he will choose his bride from one of these girls.
Some are excited, some are annoyed, most are scared ... all see it as an adventure. Miri quickly proves to be an excellent study at all the subjects taught ... but she misses her home. Soon she learns to read, and becomes engrossed in the things the books have to offer. She realizes there is a huge world outside their little village.
What happens next is up to you to find out .... but it's really good. There is romance, mystery (one I did NOT see coming), danger (a horrible group of "bandits"), intrigue (I threw that one in for effect), and even a little mind reading.
All in all, a good book. You should read it. I picked it up this morning when I was feeding Kate, finished the quilt today, made lunch, dinner, and cleaned the kitchen, did the laundry, and still had time to finish it (only 315 pages I think) ... so quick and easy ... but good.

It really was a nice one. Lucky you!
Megan has this book and has read it...I have not, but I probably should! I still need to get through "The Host"!
Just finished the book. It was a good story. I think I liked the thousand days book better, though.
i love your book reviews...i don't know how you have that much time to read...i have not read a book in ages..okay, well unless accounting text books count...but I love to read. I read two jane austen's in march. i'm planning on getting some of your recommendations read while i'm in hawaii..keep em coming!
I finished it last week too. I also thought it was good. I think I liked Austenland better, but I have yet to read Book of 1000 Days... So, we'll see.
You are amazing and fly through books like no one I have ever seen! That sounds good. In fact all the books you have reviewed by that author sound good. Maybe when I am done with the Narnia Chronicles I will have to start those. (that is if I ever finish them - I have not had time at all lately to read)
